This course is designed to build the reading and writing skills of nonnative speakers of English in order to prepare for academic work in English. This is a reading and writing course and includes practice in the following: In reading, the focus is on comprehension, vocabulary development, reading rate and study skills. In writing it emphasizes sentence structure, paragraph organization and usage of formal English grammar. Enrollment preference is given to international students wishing to prepare for academic work in English.
